LOtC & Forest School

Learning Outside the Classroom is a concept which has grown in popularity as schools across the country have collaborated and formalised learning activities which are not confined to the classroom environment. At Bengeworth, much of our Forest School timetable is actually part of the LOtC concept which is embedded within the bespoke Curriculum that we provide. However, all teachers plan learning activities every single day which take place beyond the classroom, including off-site visits and use of school facilities across both settings. To find out more about the concept of Learning Outside the Classroom follow this link.

Forest School is a long-term approach to education, for children, young people and adults, that maximises the benefits of learning in the outdoors.  Whilst its roots are planted firmly in our best understanding of the theory of how children learn, it's practice puts the learner at the heart of their learning experience.  From this fundamental platform, forest school offers children and young people the opportunity, over repeated visits, to engage with the rich natural diversity of the woodland environment to help build confidence, sensitivity, resilience and curiosity.

At Bengeworth CE Academy we have a Forest School Leader who ensures that right from Reception, children progressively learn to play, learn and work in the outdoor environment, taking responsibility for the world in which they live.
